Epcot - Fun Facts
Epcot was Disney Worlds second theme park to be opened. The park is split into two parts, the Future World Pavilions and the World Showcase. Here are some little fun facts.
• Epcot was opened 1st October 1982 after three years of construction.
• Contrary to popular believe Epcot does not stands for – Endless Parks Covering Orlando with Tourists (ha ha) but did originally stand for Experimental Prototype Community (or City) of Tomorrow. However, in 1996 the name no longer stood in capitals indicating that it was no longer an acronym.
• The pavements at Epcot are painted a specific colour to enhance the green of the grass and make pictures taken there look brighter
• In Epcot if you walk from Innovations West towards the Land Pavilion, you may find a round shape on the ground which is surrounded by quotations from scientists, if you stand in this circle then you are in the geographical centre of Walt Disney World.
• Walt’s original idea was to have Epcot as a residential community, this however was changed, but the idea continued when Disney built the Celebration Village which is located on the 192.
• Spaceship Earth weighs an astonishing 16 million pounds.
• There is a 100° Fahrenheit temperature difference between the hot and cold test rooms on test track.
• Test track cares go from 0-65 miles per hour in just 8. 8 seconds.
• Each of the Test Track cars has 22 wheels, however only four are on view.
• There are 11 countries in the World Showcase: Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, America, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom and Canada.
• Mexico is the only country not to light up during illuminations this is due to religious reasons.
• In the Norway Pavilion there is a talking bench as you dismount Maelstrom, to your right before you get to the theatre doors.
• Christina Aguilera’s “Reflection” video was filmed at Epcot's China Pavilion.
• The worlds show case, Germany once had a River Rhine ride planned however it never made it even though a building had been constructed to house it.
• Italy’s 83 foot bell tower is an exact replica of the one in St Mark’s Square Venice even down to the gold leaf covering at the top!
• The United Kingdom pavilion crossed four eras from Tudor to Victorian.
• Disney Worlds “Eiffel Tower” is a mere 1/10th of its Parisian counterpart and is coated with a special paint that deters the birds from spoiling the ratio of stature.
• World Showcase Cast members are actually native of the “country” they are working in.Page added on: 20 June 2007
