Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Magic Kingdom

Florida Guide > Disney Parks

We decided to give this event a try last year after reading about it on the Disney website (we hadn't found this forum at that point) We really didn't know what to expect other than maybe the park would be a little quieter since it is a separately ticketed event.

We bought the tickets at Guest services at Epcot, you can get them from any of the parks Guest services. We went on Dec 7th as we were going home on the 10th.

Having been told we could arrive from 4pm onwards, we went to Epcot for the early part of the day and on arrival showed our tickets and were given a badge and wristband to wear. We picked up a park map and itinerary for the evening and made a point of deciding where to stand for the parade. The park was still full of daytime guests so we started our tour in the usual manner, working our way around the attractions and jumping into lines that were reasonably quiet. The decorations in the park were stunning, climaxing with the tree in the centre of Main St. As darkness fell the park started to empty and we noticed that by 6pm people without the wristbands and badge were starting to be refused access to certain rides.

The crowds thinned considerably and soon there were very little queues to get on any of the rides. We saw a lot more characters around the park than usual and so out came the camera for those "kodak moments". There were lots of cast members offering cookies and hot chocolate throughout the park and we availed ourselves of them since it was getting a bit chilly.

After having our picture taken (you fill out a form and they send it your home address about 2 weeks later) we made our way to Splash Mountain for one last ride before the parade. VERY bad idea, I got soaked and the temperature was dropping quickly. Wet jeans aren't fun at the best of times, and on a cold Dec night it was decidedly not funny at all.

Next stop was the Main St clothiers for some dry clothes!!!! Warmed up with dry togs and some more free hot chocolate we took our place in time for the parade. This was a new parade especially for MVMCP and very Christmassy it was too. By the time it was over we were cold again so went for a coffee and another wander round just in case we had missed anything.

The park is open until midnight on Party nights and they have 2 parades during the evening to accommodate those who don't wish to stay till then.

We watched the parade again, this time in front of Cinderella's Castle so that we were perfectly placed for the fireworks display. This was without doubt the highlight of the whole evening. Spectacular just doesn't cover it. It was an awesome sight and sent shivers down my spine. Yes it is schmaltzy and sentimental but why not, it’s Christmas after all and if this doesn't put you in the mood for Christmas then nothing will.

After the fireworks we turned to find it "snowing" all along Main St towards the exit and so ended another wonderful evening courtesy of the mouse :-)

The dates and details for this years MVMCP can be found on the Disneyworld website, and I would recommend it to anyone :-)
