Planet Hollywood Orlando ~ Down Town Disney West Side

Completely unmissable as you enter Disney’s Down Town West Side complex,Orlando’s Planet Hollywood restaurant is housed in a giant purple and neonshrouded ball, located next to the main entrance of Pleasure Island.

The huge sweeping, canopied staircase which transports you to the mainrestaurant level (an elevator is available for guests in wheelchairs), isreminiscent of those huge stage sets seen in all the classic song and dancemovies of the 30’s and 40’s, and sets the tone for what is one of Orlando’s mostextraordinary dining experiences.

Once you pass the life size statue of Sylvester Stallone in full Rockyregalia, you enter through a gleaming chrome revolving door to the lobby area, where the Maitre Dee will take your seating requirements and show you to yourtable, if one is already available. Be prepared to wait however, as reservationsare not taken, and this place is extremely popular with both tourists and localsalike.

The good news however, is that should you have to wait, you can do so in thelounge bar located to the left of the ground floor restaurant area, where a predinner cocktail will help to get you into the mood for the glamorous night thatlies ahead.

Whether you are seated immediately, or take the opportunity to explore theexotic drinks available at the bar, you will immediately be struck by the sheerscale of Planet Hollywood. With it’s high domed ceiling and two floor diningarea, there is really only one way to describe it ~ huge !

Of course, it goes without saying that if you are a movie buff, you willprobably already be aware of what makes Planet Hollywood so successful, but tothe uninitiated, you have not just entered a restaurant, you have entered amagical world or movie sets, costumes, props, gismos, gadgets and memorabilia.

Want to see Dorothy’s original dress from the Wizard of Oz ? It’s there.Freddy Krueger’s famous razor fingered glove ? It’s there too. How aboutChristopher Reeve’s body suit from the original Superman movie ? Yes, alsothere.

In fact, what you have with Planet Hollywood is a literal Aladdin’s cave of priceless articles all of which have been used in great blockbuster movies.

Often noisy, it has a bustling atmosphere, aided by two huge video screensand numerous smaller screens located throughout the restaurant, which showfamous movie clips, upcoming previews, music videos and tricky quiz questions.

Open daily for lunch and dinner, the menu is wide ranging and varied, andstarts from $10 and up.

Go for the food ~ Stay for the experience. You won’t be disappointed !
