Tony Roma's

Every time I visit Orlando I like to try a new restaurant, not necessarily new, but new to me. This trip it was Tony Roma’s.

It is situated on International Drive, opposite where the Mecado used to be and just a bit before Pointe Orlando on the opposite side of the road.

It was extremely busy, always a good sigh, it shows the popularity is because of the good food and service. There are tables outside though if you have to wait, you can browse the menu while you are waiting and although we were told 20 minutes we were called to our table within 10 minutes.

It is World famous for the ribs mainly but the whole experience was excellent. The atmosphere was good the service was excellent and the food could not be faulted.

We started with the onion loaf, if you have not tried this before, it is a must, deep fried thin onion rings all piled together to look a bit like a loaf, with a really lovely dip, it was delicious, as always in Florida there was 4 of us sharing and we still couldn’t eat it all.

We all had the ribs but there are several different sorts, the usual baby back ribs (pork) and also beef ones too, you can also have one dish of them cooked differently, hot and spicy. Barbecue and I think the other was cheese. The quality of the meat was second to none and they were undoubtedly the best ribs I have ever had! the meat simply fell off the bones and were absolutely wonderful, I will certainly be back there next time I go. With the ribs there was the usual choice of baked potatoes ( the loaded ones are good! ) fries, salad etc. Just as well they give you a “ to go “ box afterward as they were far too good to leave behind if you couldn’t manage them all. (I ended up finishing mine off the next day for lunch!

There was an equally good desert menu but as per normal we were all far too full to even attempt one! I sometimes wonder if they ever sell any deserts at all at these restaurants, either that or some folk have bigger appetites than me! The only way I ever get to eat desert over there is if that’s all I have, leave out the main course altogether! I did do that in The “ Cheesecake factory “ but that’s another story!
