Disney’s Boardwalk

Florida Guide > Disney General

A trip to the Boardwalk makes a pleasant and relaxing half day or alternatively an interesting evening out.

The Boardwalk Hotel is between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios and is one of the resort hotels around a lake. A lot of people go there just for a few hours and there is a separate car park for day visitors just across the main road from the hotel entrance. To go to the Boardwalk you take the steps just before the hotel, or if you have someone with a wheelchair or children in a stroller you go through the hotel and use the lifts.

When you get down to the lakeside it is as though you have gone back to the seaside in the 1950s. It has a charming old fashioned feel to it with cabins selling drinks and ice-creams and similar and a variety of other attractions. One of the popular activities is to hire one of the family bikes complete with canopy to cycle around the lake. These come in 3 seater and larger sizes and create a lot of fun. It is even good exercise as there is quite an incline going over the bridges at each end. Most people go round twice in the half- hour hire period.

If nautical pursuits are more your line you can hire a boat for fishing from the Marina at the opposite side of the lake. You can choose the size of boat and also the duration of your trip.

There is an access to EPCOT at one end of the lake and if you just want to see the fireworks the bridge at the end of the lake is a great vantage point and of course it is free.

There are a number of places for buying coffee and snacks during the day as well as 3 restaurants for proper meals. They vary from the Spanish restaurant and the more upmarket fish restaurant, both of which you will need to book if you want to eat there in the evening, to the American restaurant where you wait for a table. It does get really busy at weekends so booking is a good idea, preferably some days in advance in high season

In the evenings it really comes to life with entertainers of various sorts appearing and disappearing as the evening goes by.

We always spend at least one session there each holiday and find it a great place to relax.
