Beauty and The Beast

Florida Guide > Magic Kingdom

The Magic Kingdom at Disney World is undergoing a make-over to update the park. They have started in the Fantasy Land and will not be complete until 2014. However some new parts are already open and one of the newest is a special area featuring the characters from The Beauty and The Beast. As you get towards the area, you will see Gaston’s Tavern, a refreshment tavern for drinks and snacks. Outside is a bronze statue of Gaston and Le Fou enjoying a flagon of ale.

Further along is the Be Our Guest Restaurant which provides the usual Disney fare of Burgers, chicken nuggets and sandwiches etc. It is a very grand hall with all the décor and seating is exactly as depicted in the movie of Beauty and The Beast. The characters portrayed are all the magic walking and talking utensils. At the main entrance is Wardrobe and inside are Mrs Potts and chip and lumiere the candelabra plus many more.

Further on is a show called Belles Story. This is an audience participation show and lets children (mainly) and adults take part in the story “As old as time”. The first stage of the show takes place in Belle’s father, Maurice’s workshop. As the audience stand in front of a magic mirror, they are asked to call out, “Take me back to when Belle and The Beast fell in love”. At that moment, the mirror flashes with lights and opens up to reveal another room.

Here they enter the library and are greeted by the Wardrobe and a pageboy. At this point the pageboy selects people from the audience to become characters in the play. They have two knights to guard the palace, a horse, Mrs Potts and chip, a plate, The Beast and Maurice in prison. After the cast have been chosen, the whole audience moves through to the dining hall where Belle will appear and the interaction starts.

They act out the meeting of Belle and The Beast and with the direction of two more pageboys the small play is concluded with each of the “actors” being photographed with Belle and presented with a souvenir book mark.

This is quite a tame show but the small children (and their parents) love it. I would not recommend it to adults without children as it is really all about the ones who are chosen to act in the play.
