Downtown Disney (3)

Florida Guide > Disney General

If you want to experience the magic of Disney, even without visiting any of the parks, then Downtown Disney is the place for you. Visit day or night and you will find something that takes your fancy.

For great entertainment, take in a show at Cirque du Soleil who have a permanent resident show on the west side of Downtown Disney. This world famous entertainment, is something really special and not to be missed.

Disney Quest is also located here, next to Cirque du Soleil and can provide hours of fun and entertainment for all the family. DQ is an interactive game play venue which includes rides, games, virtual reality experiences, and is based on Disney Themes.

If you fancy a little music whilst dining, check out the House of Blues where you can grab a fabulous meal whilst listening to some great music.

There is also Pleasure Island which comes into its own after dark where you can eat, drink and dance the night away.

On top of all that there is a fabulous multi-screen cinema showing the latest releases.

If you fancy a nice meal, then you will be spoilt for choice because DTD has everything you could want ranging from fast food at McDonalds through to dining at Orlando’s Planet Hollywood. Who knows, you could bump into someone really famous! When we visited in 2000, N-Sync had just arrived for dinner, much to the delight of my daughter – I bet Justin doesn’t want to think back to those days now! Other great restaurants at DTD include an Irish pub, Wolfgang Pucks, Rain Forest Cafe and Fulton’s Crab House.

One of the best places to visit, and my absolute favourite, is Ghiradelli’s, the famous chocolatiere. You can shop for some great chocolate deals and have a quick soda or ice cream – go ahead, indulge yourself.

And of course, we shouldn’t forget the shops. Disney’s largest character shop is based at Downtown Disney where you can buy anything and everything to do with the mouse and beyond. They have a great clothes section as well as toys, jewellery, kitchen wares, you name it – they’ve got it. Each time we go, I say that I’m not going to buy anything, else, but I always do. They have the cutest little place in the store, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, where kids can get made up into their favourite Disney characters and I just love seeing the little princesses in all their finery.

They also have some great character shops – check out Disney Tails where you can buy great gifts for your pets, a huge Disney Christmas shop, a large Virgin Mega Store and also a large Lego store, where the kids can play with the bricks right by the side of the lake (which you can also take a boat ride across).

This truly is a great place to visit, it feels really magical, especially at night time, and we try to visit every time we go to Florida.
