Hollywood Boulevard - Hollywood Studios

Florida Guide > Hollywood Studios

As you enter Disney Hollywood Studio through the turnstiles onto the main street you are in Hollywood Boulevard where you will see lots of neon and chrome, art deco and modern architecture.

Here you will find an assortment of “Streetsmosphere” characters. These can be found all along the Boulevard, we have even seen them calling down from one of the windows above the shops.

There are characters like 1930s detectives, starlets and gossip columnists all interacting with the crowd. If you talk back to them you could be in for some fun as I found out a couple of years ago when a giant moose (to this day I do not know what character he was supposed to be! ) entertained the crowd for several minutes at my expense.

You may also encounter the 1940s detective, looking for a suspicious person and he may ask you to produce receipts for the "stuff you got in them Disney bags. "

We have also seen Greta Garbage laundress to the stars, Ima Fraudian, acting coach to the stars and Rosie the Cleaning Lady.

Remember when you arrive at Hollywood Studios to check with Guest Relations or the Cast Members at Hollywood Junction at the corner of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards to find out if and when any Streetmosphere characters will be performing.

You will wander through colourful shops and restaurants all giving you the feeling of the 1930s and 40s.

The Hollywood Brown Derby used to be the meeting place of the stars, right down to its signature Cobb salad and grapefruit cake. During our visits we once called in here at lunchtime, having had an early breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed Goat’s Cheese Mushroom Tortellini and Barbecue Pork Rib as starters. We all decided on Barbecue Breast of Chicken with Romaine Hearts and flatbread for our entrée needless to say there was no room for dessert!

As you walk down Hollywood Boulevard, immediately in front of you you will see a gigantic Sorcerer Mickey Hat, originally built to mark WDW's 100 Years of Magic Celebration. The girls were so excited when they first saw this and we were all pleased that Hollywood Studios decided to keep it after the 100 years celebration.

At the end of Hollywood Boulevard is Mann's Chinese Theatre. It is in here that you will find The Great Movie Ride, which was one of the Disney Hollywood Studios original attractions. This is a 22-minute slow moving tram ride into the history of the movies, with a cast of Audio-Animatronics characters.

Children can often find characters in front of the Chinese Theatre for photo opportunities and autographs. Characters we have spotted here include Pinocchio, Donald Duck, Green Army Man (from Toy Story), Captain Hook, Peter Pan, and Mary Poppins. Your guide map or a Cast Member should be able to tell you the times they will appear.

Look at the ground in front of the Chinese Theatre because you will see where amongst others Robin Williams, Samuel L. Jackson, Sylvester Stallone, Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley have left their handprints in cement.

Enjoy your stroll along the Boulevard.
