Tips for Eating Out in Orlando

Florida Guide > Dining

Whilst in Orlando you are likely to eat out more than usual so I thought I would list a few of the tips we have picked up in the twenty years we have been visiting Florida.

There are many discount offers for visitors eating out and they can be found in several places. If you have time before your holiday you can go on the Internet at home and print out vouchers for Florida Restaurants.

Once in Florida you will find discount vouchers and coupons everywhere, most restaurants have them at their entrances. We tend to cut them out and keep them in a polythene container in the front of the car. Tourist Information Centres are always worth a visit as they tend to have cards with local discounts on.

My parents love to read the daily papers at breakfast so they always have plenty of quarters with them to buy these at the machines at the entrance of many restaurants.

There appears to be a tendency for visitors to be initially offered a booth to sit in at many restaurants. This is a matter of personal choice but we always ask for a table and the staff are usually quite happy to show you to one if they are available.

There is a vast choice of restaurants for breakfast many visitors with families tend to favour the all you can eat restaurants on the way to the Parks. Theses are relatively inexpensive with a great choice of food and everyone can eat as much or as little as they like. We find if we have breakfast in one of these restaurants we only need a snack during the day then an evening meal at night. The first few days of our holiday when the children are usually very tired at the end of the day rather than eat where we have to wait for food we also go to an all you can eat restaurant.

Many a la carte restaurants have Early Bird Specials, these are usually between 4. 00pm and 6. 00pm but in some restaurants these are extended to 6. 30 or 7. 00pm. We do not always use these in the spring and summer months when we take advantage of the sun and the late opening at the Parks but find them great in the darker winter months.

Applebees and Chillis have two for one drinks offer on wine and I believe domestic beer. You need to be aware of this because if you have had two glasses of wine and just fancy a third you end up with two more glasses!

Doggy bags are the norm at a la carte restaurants so do not be afraid to ask for one.

Finally always check your bill before you pay to see if a service charge is included. This used to only be added for parties of six or more but recently we have had a couple of restaurants add it when there were just two diners. Also some restaurants offer discounts off future meals if you produce your bill on the next visit.

Enjoy eating out in Florida.
