For the younger members of the family - Animal Kingdom

Florida Guide > Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom is the newest of all the Disney parks. Set around a large tree of life the park is small in comparison with other Disney parks. The park is aimed at the younger Children with lots of opportunities to look at animals and wildlife. There are a few rides thrown in to keep the older ones entertained.
The main rides at Animal Kingdom are the Kilamanjaro Safaris and the Expedition Everest. Both are up there with the best Disney has to offer. There are plenty of other rides: 3-D action in its a bugs life, Dinosaur, Kali River rapids & many walk through zoo style enclosures.

Where some might think Animal Kingdom is the poor relation to the other Disney Parks, it does make up for it in the shows on offer. The best being the Lion King which has all the favourites from the film taking part. The energy of the performers really brings it to life and by the end most people are up dancing. One of my favourites is the Finding Nemo musical. This in my view was one of the highlights of our day and really appealed to the toddlers and younger members of the audience. Our 4 Year old loved it and wanted to go back to see the afternoon performance!

One thing Animal Kingdom does tend to lack is thrill rides, however making up for this is Expedition Everest. Set in the heart of Nepal and the Himalayas you go on a journey to find the mysterious Yeti. Safe as to say you do bump into him and there begins your journey! The ride is one of the very few in Orlando to actually go backwards! This ride is always very busy so it is well worth using the fast pass option. We saved around 45 minutes using this option, so was well worth it. It basically allows you to get a ticket and then come back at a pre-designated time to ride. We ended up waiting for around 10 minutes with this option.

Take a trip down the Kali Rapids and on a hot day it allows you to cool off as you do tend toget wet. The ride itself is not as good as Popeye and Blutos rapids at Universal (you don’t get as wet). But as it is aimed at a younger audience it is ideal for the whole family.

To finish off the day Mickey has his Jammin Parade that winds its way through the park. This is similar to the parade at Magic Kingdom, but on a smaller scale. Still it is well worth the wait and keeps everyone entertained.

Overall in my opinion Animal Kingdom is not as good as the other Disney Parks, however it is well worth a visit using your extra days on your pass. If you are on a 7 or 14 day pass it works out very cheap and does fill a day. Being aimed at the younger members of your family it is worth consideration to put onto your plan when on vacation.
