Tasty Treats of Orlando - Part 2

Florida Guide > Dining

More tasty treats in Orlando are:

Funnell cake, which is served mainly in the parks. This is a batter which is coiled in a circle and deep fried then coated with icing sugar. Best eaten hot as it is very greasy but rather like eating a hot doughnut. I love these and to hell with the calories!

Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme Donuts are now available in the UK but cost about 3 or 4 times as much. These are served with a variety of toppings and can be eaten warm straight from the fryer again a great favourite of mine.

Auntie Anne’s pretzels are wonderful hot bread delights coated in cinnamon sugar and are perfect to have with your morning coffee. These are really delicious but again very large. Most outlets are in shopping malls.

Cinnabuns are like Chelsea buns but of course, bigger, and are liberally coated in cinnamon flavoured icing sugar – you will get very messy eating one of these. Mainly served in shopping malls too.

Churros, available mainly in the theme parks, are long strips of doughnut, deep fried and dipped in cinnamon sugar, again, best eaten hot.

Turkey legs, served in the Disney parks are the size of Ostrich legs and are served with quite a lurid red glow and could take you at least an hour to eat. Just grab one of these and that will be lunch taken care of.

Ice creams served in the Disney parks are mostly Micky Mouse ear shaped. The have dark chocolate choc ice ones and ice cream sandwiches served between 2 chocolate biscuits. The bananas coated in chocolate and nuts are naturally banana shaped and delicious. These are served from ice cream carts dotted around the parks and are very, very cold so mind you do not get your tongue stuck to them.

In the Mall at Millenia the Godiva Chocolatier have the most sophisticated chocolates I have ever seen and are truly irresistible. Just entering the store takes you into a complete world of chocolate. The smells are intoxicating and the sight of all the different types laid out so enticingly, makes it impossible to resist buying.

In Old Town, Kissimmee, is a store called Kissimmee Popcorn Company. As the name implies, all they sell is popcorn. However, the range of flavours is beyond belief. Bacon and Egg flavour, shrimp flavour, mint flavour to name but a few. They have a total of 106 flavours. Amazing.

So if you do not mind the calorie count – quite horrific – do try some of these on your trip to Florida
