Woody Woodpeckers Kidszone

Florida Guide > Universal Parks

Although Universal Studios is probably better known for its spectacular rides the Studios really do have a little bit of something for everyone. Here there is an entire section devoted to younger children called Woody Woodpecker's Kid Zone.

When our girls were younger my parents used to take the younger one to the Kidzone for a few hours whilst I took the older one to the more grown up attractions. They found this less strenuous; this fact was born out by the number of other grandparents there! We would arrange to meet back at the Kidzone Pizza Company for tea.

First they would head for Animal Actors on Location. This is a great family friendly show with a mix of live animal performances and audience participation. It lasts about twenty minutes.

Next it was onto the E.T. Adventure. Here they rode a star bound bike to save E.T.'s home planet. The queue area, and the lines can be a little long, is great and so is start of the ride, then it is onto a colourful adventure. The kids love this ride even though it might be a little dated.

ET Adventure, I now believe, is a Universal Express attraction that is like Fast Pass

at Disney. However I do not think this is free, you would have to check this when you get to the Park.

Whenever we visit the parks we always have a swimsuit and small towel in our backpacks as we usually let the girls cool down with a play in various water areas in the parks.

In this part of the Kidzone there are two interactive play areas. Curious George Goes to Town – is one of these. The children can follow the footsteps of Curious George through this interactive town. This is a great place for the children to let off some energy and get totally soaked. Be aware that when the alarms ring the children rush to get under that big wave of water. After they have had at least half an hour it is ice creams all round while the little one dries out.

Then onto A Day in the Park with Barney where they join Barney and his friends Baby-Bop and BJ in a live sing-along in a theatre show. This is a popular attraction for the younger set and you often have to queue. After the show there is usually a mad rush to meet Barney in Barney's Backyard. I don’t think we have ever left here without buying something from the Barney Store!

Their final ride is usually Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster; this is a gentle family roller coaster.

Back on with the swimsuit to go to Fievel's PlayLand. Here children can run, jump and play in this "mouse-eye-view" playground. There is a 1000-gallon cowboy hat, a 30-foot spider web to climb and a twisting 200-foot water slide.

Finally we all met as planned at the Kidzone Pizza Company for tea. The little one slept well that night!
